Standing majestically against the New York skyline, the Empire State Building regained its title as the tallest building in New York after the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center. This remarkable building was completed in 1931 and stands at 1472 feet with 102 floors and 73 elevators. The idea for building the Empire State Building was conceived as part of a competition between Chrysler and General Motors to build the tallest skyscraper in the world. The idea for the building was conceptualized during the 1920s, at the time of a real estate boom. However, the construction of this building only took place during the midst of the Depression and was completed within one year and 45 days. The timing for building was right in terms of low costs and resources, as materials needed to construct the building was at a low price and the low employment rate accounted for ease in obtaining site workers for construction work. This building only cost a little over $40 million to build, was originally built with a mooring mast for blimps to dock. However, this idea was abandoned later due to wind conditions at high altitude. Amongst the investors that invested on the development of this building were Coleman and Pierre Du Pont from E.I Du Pont de Nemours and Louis G. Kaufman and Ellis P. Earl, both from Empire State, Inc. After its successful construction, this building remained as the tallest building in the world for 40 years, only to be surpassed by the height of the World Trade Center as well as the Sears Towers.

Today, the Empire State Building serves as the office for over a thousand businesses, providing the prestige to many companies which are housed within the tallest building in New York.
