Broadway

Another prominent street in Manhattan is the area around Broadway, the center of the American theater industry. Originally named by the Dutch as Breede weg, Broadway stretches throughout the entire Manhattan Island. However, one of the most outstanding stretches of Broadway is the section where Broadway intersects with 7th Avenue, within Midtown Manhattan. This is where Times Square is as well as many of the Broadway theaters are located, and where most of the Broadway singers and dancers can be found. Many actors and actresses have gained fame from starring Broadway musicals, which is why businesses focuses on Broadway musicals should be centered within the vicinity of this area.

Times Square

On the other hand, Times Square was previously named after the New York Times where the office of this renowned newspaper was once located. Today, the whole area of Times Square consists of four blocks of buildings and constitutes the western section within Midtown Manhattan. Amongst the world-famous companies with a presence in this area is the major studio of ABC, as well as a myriad of restaurants, specialty stores, movie theaters and also companies involved the financial, publishing and media industries.

Some of the prominent buildings within this area would include One Times Square, the previous headquarters of the New York Times in 1904, the MTV studio owned by Viacom and which operates channels such as MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1, as well as NASDAQ Information Center where the largest 120 feet signage at 4 Times Square.

Additionally, the New York Times Company is also located in the vicinity of Times Square at 229W 43rd Street. Also, financial giants such as Morgan Stanley and one of the Big Four accounting firms, Ernst and Young both have a presence in Times Square. Legal firm Lehman Brothers and media company Reuters are also there within the same area.

Park Avenue

The final prominent business area within Midtown Manhattan is Park Avenue, which is located east from Madison Avenue and acts as a major through-road for north and south traffic within Manhattan. Park Avenue is synonymous with up-market real estate as it is goes through the Upper East Side area, and is also home to many skyscrapers belonging to corporate giants such as Citigroup, JP Morgan, Philip Morris and Colgate Palmolive. Other prominent buildings located along Park Avenue would be the Bankers Trust Building at 280 Park Avenue, the Rudin Tower and the MetLife Building. Due to the prestigious name of Park Avenue, various world-famous and best hotels are located long this road. These would include hotels such as the Vanderbilt hotel, the 70 Park Avenue Hotel, Grand Hyatt and the Clarion Hotel.

Further towards the east of Park Avenue is the location of the United Nations Complex. As the headquarters of the United Nations, this area between First Avenue and East 42nd Street does not belong to the United States, and is regarded as international property. The complex consists of 4 buildings, with the highest building being the Secretariat building that consists of 39 floors standing at 544 feet. Apart from that, the design of this building was conceptualized by a committee of 10 architects appointed by the United Nations, and thus an international style was selected. The exterior of the building is prominently consisting of blue-green grass marble, which was the first of its type in New York. Another building within this complex is the 5-storey General Assembly Building, which has a seating capacity to fit 1800 international representatives. The remaining two buildings are the Conference building and the Dag Hammarskjold Library, with a small public park located in front of the East River.

Downtown Brooklyn

The third largest business district within New York City is the business district within Downtown Brooklyn. Brooklyn is located south east of the Manhattan borough, connected by the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, and contains a relatively large residential area. Downtown Brooklyn however is located at the north western section of the Brooklyn borough, which is also named as the City of Brooklyn. Indeed, the line of business buildings including the Civic Center, the Fulton Mall, the Borough Hall, the New York Transit Museum and the post office. With this, Downtown Brooklyn serves as a viable alternative for a virtual office or office space with relatively lower rental rates as compared to the Downtown and Midtown Manhattan areas.
